LAST MEETING OF AMPLIFY YESTERDAY. ):
I still can't get over the fact that I'll only return to amplify somewhere in late October.

OCTOBER HERE I COME.

Anyway, I dissected a heart yesterday. OHMY. Coolness, although the stench was revolting and I had this extreme urge to puke. GOSH.

Also, we did titration. I think I've MASTERED titration. I'll definitely pass with flying colours.

Physics test was on the same day.
Temperature transfer? I don't understand. MUCH I MEAN. Although I do know that " Q = mc'thither' "
That's about it.

TODAY:

Woke up in the morning. Supposed to watch pirates of the carribean. Didn't watch.
So I ended up going to the ST. THERESA'S HOME, where I got this really horrible cut.

Headed down to curia. Meanwhile ATE SUSHI for lunch. SHIOKS.
Curia was (ahhem) all right I guess. Quite fun.

When I was heading towards the SJI canteen, I saw this guy with his head BLEEDING. OH MY GOODNESS.
I was so shocked. Saw Ian around. He looked worried too.


Okay, so Eugene and Melvin dragged me to RISEN CHRIST CHURCH. (i'm glad they did, tell you why later)
IT ROCKED! OH MY GOODNESS. Haha, I'll go back next week.

The choir was PERFECT.
The duration of the sermon was just right.
-sigh. I REALLY WISH BLESSED SACRAMENT was as good as this.

Ok, so after mass.. We were supposed to go eat my FAVOURITE.
BAK CHOR MEE!!
I ended up eating dumpling noodle. And the entire time I was eating, I was squabbling with that racist dude. GOSH, give me a break mann. NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING CHINDIAN.

Marcus was telling me about this guy from his class. Some vietnamese guy.. haha. OHMYGOODNESS. I swear I could have laughed all my noodle out. Great fun.
Headed down to macs at toa payoh. Drank milkshake. CRAPPED SOMEMORE.

AND I HAD THE BEST FUN IN A REALLY LONG TIME.


HAHA. Special thanks to MR POON. For keeping me company for my entire mrt and bus ride.

I've talked about two 'I's already.

1. Idolatry.

2. Individualism.

Today we go into the THIRD 'I'.

Intellectualism.

Individualism is the worship of self. Intellectualism on the other hand is the worship of the mind.

Today, countless towers of Babel are being built -not with materials- with HUMAN IDEAS, concepts or theories.

But beware. God is in the business of smashing idols. The tower of ideas will crumble.

Intellectual development is not being put down here. Instead, God has given us the abilty to reason, to think. Therefore, we are called to worship God with our POWERFUL MINDS.

Intellectualism says this:

This is the most logical plan. IT IS THE BEST WAY.

MY idea is better than YOURS.

This has never happened before. IT cannot be possible.

Invite the Holy Spirit to SCAN your brains like an x-ray. What do you assume success to be? Do they look anything like the values that charaterised Jesus' life?

Whoever wants to be the first, let him serve the last.

Individualism indeed does exalts self and exiles God. That also undermines relationships and community.

We live in an age of broken relationships. In Singapore, about 6000 marriages ended in divorce in the year 2004. It has increased three-fold in the last decade.

The outlook for relationships appears grim. Advances in I.T. have made it easier to communicate. However, these modern forms of communication are highly impersonal. Who would want to meet over a cup of coffee with the invention of sms and email?

Globlalisation has also quickened the erosion of relationships. In order to seize job oppotunities overseas, mobility and independence are necessary. Today, everyone falsely believes that truly liberated people are not tied down by traditon or family. The lone ranger is portrayed as HIP and HAPPENING. To depend on others is seen as a sign of weakness. But does this stae of affairs please God?

Relationships are important, because that's the only way we can grow into Christlikeness. To know the true meaning of Love, you have to be able to give and receive love from someone else.

We learn the Meaning of sacrifice when we see it modeled in the lives of those who care for us. We unlearn selfishenss when we are able to put others first. All these invaluable lessons can only take place in the context of relationships.

Singles: Have you isolated yourself from meaningful relationships with members of both genders?

Parents: How in touch re you with YOUR CHILDREN?

Your view on yourself:
You are down-to-earth and people like you because you are so straightforward. You are an efficient problem solver because you will listen to both sides of an argument before making a decision that usually appeals to both parties.

Everything around you is shrunk and twisted into strange shapes and sizes. Put simply, INDIVIDUALISM is the worship of the self. God and others are unimportant and irrelevant. The rightful King has ben exiled. Instead, the self reigns. Like a tyrant, it calls the shots. It prospers itself at the expense of everyone else.

Individualism says:

I am first. I come first: my personal privacy, preferances, and priorities. Everything else is secondary. Everyone else can wait.

I am a self made person. Been there on my own. Done that all by myself. I do not need others.

I exist for myslef. Everything I have belongs to me. Everythign I own is for my personal pleasure.

Looking good is definitely a big business here in Singapore. It is even seen in schools.

Somehow, looking good is a FULLTIME job.

Physical appearance aside, we're also obsessed with our reputation - how others view us and what they say about us. So we are careful to say the right things and be seen with the right people.

That's the idolatry image - the vain obsession with ourselves, our reputation, our standing before men.

The god of image demands a lot from its devotees. The quest to be popular and well regarded is an endless one. There will always be someone new to impress. You will have to try harder to outshine another person. Looking god truly becomes a fulltime job.

Before long, honesty and integrity go out the window. To sound clever, you may sometimes have to plagarise, and steal someone else's ideas. To look cool, you will have to stop associating with certain types of people, like the poor, the uneducated, the uncouth pre-believer.

Have you been seduced by the god of image?

Are you obsessed with how others perceive you?

Have you been pretending to be smarter or more spiritual than you really are?

Do you fish for compliments?

Are you easily upset when others misinterpret or misunderstand you?

I know I HAVE.

Sleeping with the enemy?

We are a society driven by money dont you think so? Some say we are a nation of money face and money mind. Our national complaint is money not ENOUGH. Singaporeans top the charts when it comes to saving money in the Asia-Pacific. A survey last yrear found that 3 in 5 Singaporeans would save whatever extra money they have. Now, thrift is a avirtue. But perhaps the high savings rate in Singapore is due to an obsessive frear of lack. Money has become such a security blanket and status symbol, that we will hoard every cent so we can sleep easier at night.

The idol of money may offer some temporary comfort and security. But watch out - this god is a ruthless slave master It casts an iron grip on its worshippers. It sows unbridled greed into your life, so that you will continually lust for more. And when you die, you will enter eternity empty-handed, because all your earthly treasures have faded away.

Thre is absolutely nothing wrong in being wealthy. And being poor does not make one any more spiritual. Both rich and poor people can be seduced by this golden calf of mammon. The crux of the matter is your attitude towards money.

Is money your master?

Do you put your hope in money? Do you equate abundant life with being wealthy? Do you sometimes think that life would be better if only you had more money? Do you worry that you will not have enough for your future? Is that why you are not tithing, not giving generously? Are you holding off going on mission trips because of cost? Or are you worried about the potential loss of income because you hae to take no pay leave? TURN TO GOD.

REFLECTION OF THE DAY

Repentence is sometimes thought to be painful, but is should actually be a celebration. Every decision to trun away from sin and self to God is a milestone. All of Heaven rejoices watching and waiting for the prodigal child to return.

God has always sought a humble people. He can use no other. There is always much need of heart preparation, in humility and separation, before God can conistently come. The depth of any revival will be determined exactly by the spirit of repentence that is obtained. In fact, this is the key to every true revival born of God.

Therefore GO DEEP. Today, open your heart to the Lord of Love:

• Allow Him to probe. Ask the Holy Spirit to shine His megawatt spotlight into your heart. What do you see?
• Linger in the Father's conviction. Do not squirm. Be still. Do not defend yourself, but allow the Lord to disarm you. Repent. Choose the path of brokenness that takes you back to the Father's house. He is waiting with fattened calf and splendid robes. Let the cosmic party begin.

-Always talk to God.

2. Meditate on the Word of God.
-This made A LOT of sense because the bible is his love letter to us. Now, when your bfs/gfs give you love letters, you wouldn't just chuck it one side will you??

3. Community.
-Always stay in a community of fellow believers so that you can stay strong. Geese travel in a "V" shape, and this enables them to trave 71% further because the front bird gives them the uplift. When the front grows weary, the second takes over, and this is ONE CYCLE."
Likewise, we should stay in a community and move 71% faster towards God.
